It was indeed a very colorful run to the finish as participants of “Rainbow Run” trooped to Venice Piazza in McKinley Hill some in quirky outfits of tulle, feathers, fishnet stockings and fairy wings while others in classic running gear – all in sync with the event’s celebration of equality and individuality.
Organized by LADLAD Partylist and Pep Squad Events, the race aims to support the “Anti-Discrimination Bill” initially filed in Congress over ten years ago but has yet to be enacted. Moreover, both bodies wanted to ride on the “running high” that’s sweeping the nation with a concept that’s never been done before. True enough, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community did not disappoint by making their presence felt and so did the “straights”… families, friends and running enthusiasts who shun bigotry by pounding the pavement on that beautiful Sunday morning.
“We’re overwhelmed with the turnout and the acceptance”, smiles Ladlad Chair, Bemz Benedito “Truly everyone ran with open hearts and open minds”.
Rainbow Run is supported by Reebok, Diadora, Pocari Sweat, Hidden Spring Mineral Water, Nova Bar, Goody, ROX, Topshot Studio, Soyami Chips and Health Today Magazine.
