Healthy Veggies and You – What to Eat

In today’s world where everyone is rushing everywhere, and we’re all stuck behind computer screens either slaving away at work or trying to meet people online, it’s very easy to forget that we should eat healthily and, more importantly, how to do it properly.

We’re constantly told that certain foods are “organic” and therefore better than others, but it’s not really the price or the stamp on food that makes it healthy. In that name, here are the top 3 vegetables that take the cake when it comes to being the healthiest food around.

1. Celery

Although it’s most commonly found as a seasoning for soups, celery is actually one of the healthiest and most diet-y foods on the planet.

Not only will celery help you lose weight (and therefore make you healthier), but it has also been proven that this vegetable is far superior to almost all other foods when it comes to reducing inflammation and keeping you hydrated.

Celery efficiently does this thanks to its alkaline properties, which helps it remove and quell any inflammation, while its surprising amount of water allows it to keep you hydrated. Add to all that the fact that this food contains almost 0 calories, and you’ve got yourself a perfect veggie.

2. Broccoli

When someone mentions “healthy vegetables,” it’s safe to say that broccoli is among the first things that pop into most people’s minds, and for a good reason. Even though it’s commonly believed that this veggie is exceptionally healthy, it’s scientific facts that prove broccoli is the king of healthy foods – maybe that’s why it looks like it’s wearing a crown!

Fending off cancer? Check. Speeding up the metabolism? Yup. Preventing heart disease? You bet. There’s basically a whole specter of health benefits that broccoli brings to the table, mostly due to being packed with sulforaphane and fiber, which work towards defending your body from cancer and boosting your metabolism, respectively.

When it comes to its practical side, there are so many ways one can prepare broccoli in. Cook it, steam it, grill it and combine it with anything you like to eat regularly without much hassle and while eating healthy.

3. Kale

Protein, fiber, antioxidants, phytonutrients – all of these are extremely beneficial for our bodies but can rarely be found together in one place in nature. Unless, of course, you can get your hands on some kale.

This leafy green was once easily overlooked, yet became one of the most common vegetables you can find in any store. Not only does it include all the above-mentioned nutrients, but it’s also stuffed with vitamin A, making it one of the best natural sources of said vitamins in nature.

As far as health benefits go, it will aid in preventing diseases, building muscle and keeping your metabolism in check. One of it’s best possible qualities is that it comes both in baby and regular form, which means it can be incorporated into almost any dish.
