Want to Run With a Beat of Music?

Rexona Run, with their aim of finding ways to surpass and make the latest event more exciting than the last, is here again to push running enthusiasts, professional runners and recreational runners to DO MORE.

The SM Mall of Asia grounds will be lit with live party and live music along the race course as Rexona together with RunRio stages the Philippines' first ever and multi-sensorial, AFTER-MIDNIGHT RUN where live music pushes people to run further and culminates in a party at the finish line.

“This was inspired by the insight that when you run to the beat of the music, you run faster, you go further, you’re energized to do more,” said Mar Corazo, Rexona Brand Manager.

Coach Rio, Rexona partner and running expert says, “It’s been proven that listening to music unleashes your energy, allowing you to run further.”

From the first gun start at 3:00 AM, live performances will be scattered around the race track, adding a very different take on running:

  • The 5k race will have performances by: Delta Street, Sandwich, The Diegos, DJ Mia Ayesa, Deuce Manila and DJ Nina;

  • The 10k race will get the chance to run to Funk Avy and DJ Khai;

  • While the 21k race will see all performances, as well as the finale concert of Rico Blanco, Elmo Magalona and DJ Mars Miranda.

A Runner’s Summit set for August 17 Presented by Enervon Activ

They train hard. They eat right. They take vitamins and supplements. They join races. They beat their own personal records. These are just some of the preparations and priorities of runners as they pursue their passion for running. Proper nutrition and training are, after all, significant to their performance and endurance.

As running becomes more popular among Filipinos, and as runners progress into competitive running, marathons and even triathlons, they have started to invest time, effort and resources in their health and well-being.

Enervon Activ, a premium vitamin that aids in stamina-building for people pursuing an active lifestyle, is providing runners an opportunity to tap into the expertise and vast experiences of top coaches, sports science experts, and sports nutritionists through the one-day Active Health Runner’s Summit on August 17, a whole day learning program presented by Enervon Activ, for runners aspiring to progress better, particularly runners who are planning to run longer distances in their future races such as the upcoming Run United Philippine Marathon on October 6.

“We are providing runners with a holistic approach and lifestyle solutions that can empower them to progress in their sports and reach their ultimate potential,” said Alex Panlilio, head of Unilab Active Head, which is the title sponsor of the Run United and Tri United series of races.

The Active Health Runner’s Summit will include sessions on running physiologies and key methods on proper sports nutrition. The summit will be divided into three modules: first is the Runner’s Machine, a segment for an appreciation of a runner’s physical body; then the Runner’s Fuel, a segment to understand science-based sports nutrition needs particularly for endurance runners; and finally the Beyond Running segment, which touches on the mental fitness needed when gunning for longer distances.

Reil Vinard Santos Espino, Kris Agarao and Saul Sibayan of the University Of Santo Tomas’ Sports Science Department will discuss the differences of an endurance runner’s body versus other types of builds of athletes; this way runner’s will learn how to efficiently maximize their physical assets. Premiere race organizer, coach and long-distance runner Rio Dela Cruz will also share his expertise on how runners can improve their running practices and eventually achieve their running goals, especially in big feats like in a full marathon.

Jeaneth Aro, President and Chief Nutritionist of NUTRIFIT Philippines, will provide the basics how food intake works in the body to give endurance runners that needed push in their long distance feats. She will also be touching on the effectiveness of having a pre, during, and after nutrition regimen, in her segment ‘The Science of Eating for Sport Success’.

The program also includes a discussion on how mental battles can greatly affect one’s achievements, especially after long hours of running. Celebrity long distance runner and triathlete Kim “Kuya Kim” Atienza will share how runner’s can take a step forward in their mental battles with his talks on Motivation for Endurance Runners and Mental Fitness Preparation Techniques.

“Runners who want to level up and improve their running performance would definitely learn a lot from this summit; this is something that hasn’t been done before, made especially for endurance runners,” said Jaymie ‘The Bull Runner’ Pizarro.

Unilab Active Health’s top athletes and brand ambassadors Run Rio CEO Rio dela Cruz, triathlon coaches Dan and Ani De Leon-Brown and the Bull Runner Jaymie Pizarro will also attend the Active Health Runner’s Summit, which will be held at the Jose Y. Campos Hall, Bayanihan Center of United Laboratories, Inc. Pasig City.

The summit is open to a maximum of 500 participants only. Registration is open until August 14. Participants will receive the following: Sports Nutrition Pack, Presenters Handouts, Meals and Active Health tokens. Cobra Philippine Dragon Boat Federation Team Bags Four Medals

(Manila, Philippines) Fresh from the recently concluded 11th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Dragon Boat Championship last July 24 to 28 in Hungary, the Cobra paddlers successfully bagged 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Known to be a highly competitive and physically taxing tournament, with over 30 countries, and about 40,000 athletes vying for World titles, the Cobra Philippine Dragon Boat Federation Team won in 4 categories: Silver in the 500-m mixed premier standard boat; Silver in the 200-m women’s small boat category; Bronze for the 500-m women’s small boat; and Bronze for the 200-m mixed premier standard boat.

Top competitors were teams from Canada, China, Australia, and the USA. The Philippine paddlers could only be proud that they have always placed in the Top 5 in the categories they competed in, especially with the first Philippine women’s delegation sent to compete on the international stage.

“The determination and resilience of the Cobra PDBF team is what brought them to place in the World Championship, bagging 4 medals. We are proud to be part of their success, and the team has proven that perseverance truly does pay off,” happily shares Jef Mendoza, Senior Brand Manager of Cobra Energy Drink.

Despite the fact that this is the first time that the Cobra PDBF team entered the women’s category, the local rowers took home their first silver and bronze medals, ensuring the beginning of more successful competitions.

“Now on our 4th year as their number 1 sponsor, Cobra Energy Drink will keep on supporting the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation. We have always believed in their abilities. Similar to how Cobra espouses the Filipino strength, energy, and power, our paddlers emanate these values, and we know that they will continue to make our country proud,” ends Mendoza.

Lifestyle Changes to Treat Impotence

by Dr. Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

An article in European Heart Journal showed that inability to achieve or sustain an erection in middle-aged men often precedes a heart attack by about three years (European Heart Journal, published online April 24, 2013). Another review of six clinical studies in four countries showed that avoiding lifestyle factors that cause heart attacks helps men to regain their ability to achieve and maintain erections. (JAMA Internal Medicine, November 15, 2011).

The Same Factors That Cause Impotence also Cause Heart Attacks

Impotence and heart attacks share many of the same risk factors as the most common cause of both is damage to the inner lining of arteries (Rev Med Brux, 2007 Sep;28(4):360-6). Most men who become impotent as they age suffer from arteriosclerosis, and have high blood sugar and cholesterol and high blood pressure, and are at increased risk for diabetes and heart attacks (J. Sex Med, 2005 Jan;2(1):40-52).

If You Cannot Sustain an Erection

Check with your doctor and get the usual tests for the hormones testosterone and prolactin. Chances are high that your hormone levels are normal and that sloppy lifestyle habits are the cause of your impotence now and a heart attack in the future. If arteriosclerosis is the cause of your impotence, you need to follow every lifestyle change recommended for people who are at increased risk for heart attacks.

Impotence (and high risk for heart attacks) can be caused by:
  • any chronic disease, particularly diabetes or metabolic syndrome;
  • smoking cigarettes, drinking too much alcohol, abusing any drug, being overweight, not exercising, breathing polluted air;
  • poor dietary habits, such as eating too much red meat, fried foods and sugar added foods, drinking sugared liquids (including fruit juices), not eating large amounts of fruits and vegetables;
  • emotional diseases such as depression;
  • various medications (see complete list)
