Bill is training with the TIMEX® IRONMAN® Run Trainer™ 2.0 GPS watch, which provides real-time pace, distance and heart rate data. Bill has also been training with nationally-recognized Timex Multisport Team athlete, Chris Thomas, who has developed a specific training program for him.

Our own Mr. Anthony Pangilinan, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, and Coach Rio dela Cruz are also joining the great crowd in New York City and will try to beat their time and make history as delegates of Timex Philippines. Burger King Philippines Presents Battle of the Stacks King! Eating Challenge

“Are you man enough?” was the resounding question posed by Burger King Philippines to all those men AND women out there who are brave enough to take on its newest burger offering, BK Stacks, and vie for the BATTLE OF THE STACKS KING title.

BK Stacks is Burger King’s made-to-order burger where anyone can choose 1, 2, 3, or 4 flame-grilled beef patties for their burgers! The BK Stacks is made even more satisfying with melted American cheese in between and crispy bacon on top, a generous smothering of the special BK Stacks sauce, and all held together by a toasted sesame-seed bun. Your manhood is tested by how many BK Stacks you can handle.

A Single Stack is labeled as a “Dude”.

Have a Double Stack and you’ll be known as the “Boss”.

A Triple Stack promotes you to someone people look up to—the “Chief”!

And last but definitely farthest from the least is the Quad Stack, a burger only fit for the “King”!

Burger King launched the burger-eating challenge entitled Battle of the Stacks King to see who is man enough to take on the enormous BK Stacks where the man who can eat the most number of King Stacks burger in 15 minutes wins a whopping Php 50,000.00 in cash and crowned as the BK STACKS KING! People sent a lot of funny videos to the BK Facebook page to enter the contest.

The top finalists contended for the Battle of the Stacks King crown last October 19 at Burger King 2 E-Com Center at SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City to see who is the manliest of them all. Edward "The Burger Slayer" Garcia, a 140 lbs. guy and stands 5'6" from Bajac-Bajac, Olongapo City won the challenge by eating 4 King Stacks. He defeated nine (9) other contenders who all came from Metro Manila.

Burger King Philippines is part of the global chain of restaurants specializing in 100% flame-grilled beef burgers and other finger food & dessert complements. Burger King currently has 29 American Grill-themed outlets within the Greater Metro Manila area where Filipinos can enjoy dining every day. It offers delivery via (02) 667-7171.

How to Get Ready for Your First Run

Article contributed by: Claire Best

Let’s face it: running isn’t for everyone. However, if you’ve finally decided to give it a go for the first time, you’re probably in two minds as to how to go about it. For starters you’ll want to avoid the high percentage of running injuries that occur on an annual basis. You’ll also want to be comfortable while not looking like a fledgling marathon runner in shorts and singlet (especially if you haven’t developed the musculature to carry it off yet).

Where do you start? The best place is in your local area, by looking for a suitable running route. Don’t be tempted to go down the route of being too eager. It’s easy to do – you finally make the decision to get out there and start running, and before you know it you’ve overdone it and you feel like you never want to go again. The golden rule is to start small and build up from there. The days you don’t run are just as important as the days you do if you build up a regular routine. They give your body a chance to recover.

What makes the ideal route?

The perfect route would offer a nice flat sidewalk or off-road track with no holes or tripping hazards and no slopes. Of course no runner has this, but it’s worth taking a walk around your neighborhood to find the best possible route it has to offer. Don’t pick anything too long, and focus on a nice short circular route that isn’t too demanding. If the scenery is pretty good, that’s even better. Most runners would prefer a nice backdrop to run against if given the choice.

Get the right footwear

Don’t underestimate the importance of getting the right footwear. Don’t be tempted to go barefoot and avoid the so called foot gloves that some runners are now trying out. Runner’s foot injuries have become more prevalent since barefoot running and running with foot gloves on took off.

It’s not good enough to grab your best pair of sneakers and hope for the best. Running shoes were designed for that purpose alone, so make sure you get a pair. Have them fitted properly at a store too, so you know you’ve got a pair you can trust. The worst thing is to turn an ankle when you settle for sneakers and you’re only three paces away from your front door.

Organize a schedule

If you want to get the most out of running, you need to commit to it regularly. Take out your planner or diary and block out some time. Figure out when the best time is for you as well. This means your first run will be more enjoyable because you know it’s the start of something bigger. If you don’t have a plan before you head out on that first run, you might end up never doing it again.

Think positively

When you start running you’re starting down a route to improve your health. This means you need to be realistic – you’re not going to start by running several miles at a good pace. You’ll probably run a short distance at a slow pace, but you’re working towards achieving more and improving your future health too. Resist the urge to do too much too soon as you could raise the risk of one or more running related injuries. As you notice the changes your body goes through and your fitness levels increase, the positivity you feel will bleed through into other areas of your life as well. Overall health and well-being is extremely important especially as you age, so it makes sense to start off on the right foot (if you’ll excuse the running related pun). Carry your positive results into the rest of your life and consider what else you might achieve with your new found slimmer and more toned body, as well as your improved health and fitness.

As you can see, preparing for that all important first run is as important as scheduling time for regular runs later on. The best start will boost your efforts and minimize any downside such as tiredness and achiness. Once you get started you could find this is the best decision you’ve ever made.

Soleus Moments - More Than a Run

Just barely two years ago (Nov. 2011) when the Soleus GPS 1.0 was introduced here in the Philippines by Soleus Watch Founder and CEO himself - Mr. David Arnold, here comes the new models and great line-up of GPS watches geared not just for Running, but also for the Fitness and Cycling segments. Soleus watches are known as an inexpensive GPS watch, yet as powerful as the other more expensive brands.

GPS Fit 1.0
Last Tuesday, October 15, 2013, Soleus Philippines, under Truegears Marketing launched their new line of devices. One noticeable device that caught our eyes was the GPS Fit 1.0 -- an upgrade of the Original GPS 1.0). The GPS Fit 1.0's functionality is very much same with the GPS 1.0 model: GPS receiver; measures distance, pace, and speed; calories burned; 100-lap data storage; world time; rechargeable battery; backlight; night mode; chronograph; and 30-m water resistant.

The upgrades to the GPS Fit 1.0 is very noticeable with the color choices; larger digit display; sports-ventilated strap; its USB charger now also comes as its data upload cable -- what the GPS 1.0 previously don't have; and the function buttons was also reduced to 4 (previous was 6 buttons). On my quick check on the watch's features, there was also a change on the night-mode functionality, the night-mode start and night-mode end can already be customized (more about this on my gear review of the GPS Fit 1.0).

More than just a running company, Soleus stands to be the most accurate, intuitive,
and easy to use running, cycling, and fitness monitors on the market.

During the launch, Mr. David Arnold also expressed the Company's stand of not just making watches and devices, but of helping athletes make moments by resonating with them emotionally -- thus with the Brand's voice/tagline "Make Your Moment" and the unique and variety of squiffs under each of the watches that helps fuel the passion.

Hidden surprise at the back of each watch (my personal favorite: "Sanity is slow, run wild.")
The Soleus Product DNA
The Soleus Product Inspiration

Aside from the GPS Fit 1.0, the GPS Tour which is currently their top of the line GPS watch, and other colorful, sleek-designs, and intuitive watches and devices were presented to us. Some of these are already out in the market while some are about to come out in a few weeks time.

Check out these products from the photos below (click a photo and press left/right to browse). Note that the squiffs on each caption may not be the actual squiffs of the watch:

"A journey of 26.2 miles begins with a single step."
"Sweat can be sexy."
"Keep running. It's not about the scenery."
"There are no shortcuts on race day."
"Seconds matter, keep moving."
"There are many roads in life, run them all."
"Get moving, and never miss a beat."
The Heart Rate Monitor that is compatible with SmartPhones

Another exciting product that Soleus has which I'm also interested about is the GPS Draft shown below, a GPS-driven computer device for bicycles with up to 30-ride data storage.

Soleus Brand Expression

"There are moments when we are working out or competing when the sense of accomplishment, joy, kinship, and community all come together. These are moments that can change us, inspire us, moments of accomplishment or just moments with friends. It’s in this moments when we realize we have become part of a larger experience, part of a community of athletes that know exactly how we feel.

Every second of every run, ride, or workout has the potential to be one of these moments. These are Soleus moments".

Soleus does more than make colorful, inexpensive watches and timing devices. Soleus make moments more than devices by helping athletes express their passion and commitment to sport for themselves and their greater community.

2013 World Osteoporosis Day

The World Osteoporosis Day will be celebrated this coming Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the SM Mall of Asia to promote the importance of active lifestyle and proper diet for better bone health.

Read full details of the Press Release below.

(Manila, Philippines, October 17, 2013) — The importance of an active lifestyle and proper diet to maintain strong bones is the highlight of this year's World Osteoporosis Day (WOD), which takes place on October 20. In the Philippines, Anlene invites families to join the special celebration at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall featuring fun group activities and learning sessions.

Celebrated in over 90 countries, WOD is an annual, year-long global campaign for bone health. Started by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), the event is dedicated to raising awareness on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis and other bone diseases.

Organized by Anlene, the Philippine celebration of WOD 2013 will also focus on the mother’s role in promoting bone health. IOF and Anlene believe that mothers are the backbone of families throughout the world; hence, it is important to protect them as they age. WOD 2013 encourages families to fight lazy bones by leading an active lifestyle as well as taking calcium-rich food like milk to delay weakening of bones.

During the whole-day event on October 20, Anlene will formally launch “Kilos, Pamilya”, a healthy lifestyle movement that promotes strong bones and strong bonds.

Participants will get to meet the movement’s celebrity family ambassadors—Pia Magalona and daughters Maxene and Saab. “I am raising my family to be strong and resilient. As a mom, I lead by example. As parents, we are our children’s mentors,” Pia said. “We should be self-disciplined, enough to be able to enjoy the good things in life, by living the good life. We should stay active and mentally alert by getting enough rest, exercise, and having the correct diet. These are all important to maintain good health, especially for the bones.”

A bone health expert from the Asian Hospital and Medical Center will also give a lecture on how to properly care for the bones and shed light on why it is important to get off the couch and start leading an active lifestyle.

The WOD 2013 also includes fun activities for the whole family. The event will feature bone scanning sessions, zumba and aerobics classes, yoga, tai chi, and many more. Raffle prizes also await lucky participants. The event will be held from 7 am to 7 pm. Entrance is free.

The World Osteoporosis Day 2013 is co-presented by SM Mall of Asia and Gold’s Gym and supported by Asian Hospital and Medical Center, David’s Salon, Maynilad, Ever Bilena, Viajero.
