Can I Drink Alcohol while Taking Antibiotics?

by: Stefan Simonovic

Source: Flickr

These days, we live quite hectic lives that are filled with intensive experiences. Now, we don’t want to imply this is a bad thing by default, as it lets us experience many different things, from learning to skydive to experimenting with transgender dating. On the other hand, we all know that the fast and excessive lifestyle that most of us practice can leave us physically drained, stressed out or with the considerably weakened immune system that is basically a free ticket to numerous infections.

Therefore, we wanted to look into the question that has been known to bother millennials, especially in situations where they’re trying to get over an illness but still want to party with their friends – can one drink alcohol safely while consuming antibiotics?

A Dangerous Mix

As you probably know, medication plus alcohol almost certainly equals a bad time. There’s a pretty good reason why most (if not all) drugs that doctors prescribe us have huge warning labels that say these shouldn’t be mixed with alcoholic beverages as well as with specific types of food.

You see, taking any kind of medication only to drink alcohol afterward pretty much renders the drug irrelevant. Namely, all doctor-prescribed drugs are used to help our organism while booze has a completely opposite effect, which means that the two counter each other with alcohol emerging as victor every time.

However, that’s not all of it. Mixing alcohol with medication also usually leads to negative side effects, some of which you certainly don’t want to experience. The worst part of this lies in the chance that alcohol will worsen the symptoms of the infection you’re trying to cure with antibiotics.

Possible Side Effects May Include…

Now, let’s take a quick look as to exactly which side effects you might experience when you chug down booze after taking a dose of antibiotics.

Most commonly, the side effects of antibiotics revolve around possibly decreased motor skills, but ultimately it all depends on the medication you’re taking. Other most common side effects involve but aren’t reduced to are sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness, and diarrhea.

As far as alcohol goes, the effect it has on an average human is well-known to everyone. However, it can still have side effects. Usually, this involves digestive problems like diarrhea, ulcers, stomach pain, while sometimes it can also lead to tiredness.

Now it's getting really bad. Considering which side effects you can get from these two things separately, just imagine what kind of risk you’re running if you’re mixing alcohol with antibiotics. Some of the most serious side effects include vomiting, severe nausea and, once again, diarrhea.

Still, you might not feel even one of these. Some people never experience any side effects of any medication, but if you do need to mix infection meds with booze and you feel too warm, your skin becomes red for no reason, you get a massive headache or your heart rate suddenly goes through the roof, you’re probably experiencing a negative reaction to antibiotics mixed with alcohol.

So, to answer the titular question: yes, yes you can drink alcohol while taking antibiotics. Perhaps you won’t have any issues and you won’t experience any side effects, but it’s still not something that any doctor ever would recommend – unless they want you to have a really bad time.

6 Things Successful People Do Before 9 AM

by: Stefan Simonovic

Designed by Freepik

It doesn't matter if you're young, middle-aged, or a member of the senior dating niche, you probably want to lead a successful life. However, achieving this particular goal is not that easy. You need to establish certain rules and routines in order to reach a desired level of productivity. One of the ways to do that is by having a strict morning routine. Namely, starting every single day in a productive fashion can definitely improve the quality of your life. Therefore, we’ve decided to present you with some of the things successful people do before 9 am.

They Make Their Beds And Pick Their Outfits

Being organized is a crucial step towards productivity. Even the simplest things such as making a bed or choosing your work outfit can save you some precious time and motivate you to be more efficient. A lot of successful people have the need to tidy up their bedrooms before they leave for work. It gives them a sense of achievement which is always nice. Also, they tend to pick out the clothes they're going to wear right after they wake up. They do this to avoid potential time loss.

They Exercise Every Morning

One of the ways to be more productive in the morning is to engage in a regular morning exercise. This healthy habit can do wonders for your overall health and your daily routine. A morning exercise wakes a person up and provides them with better blood flow, which allows them to focus on their job better. A lot of businessmen and businesswomen jog every single morning before breakfast.

They Drink Coffee Or Refreshing Beverages

Despite what some people might say, one cup of coffee in the morning is something that helps everyone function normally during the day. However, besides this “love potion”, a lot of successful individuals tend to drink refreshing beverages such as lemon water or orange juice every morning. Citrus fruit is full of vitamin C which has a positive and refreshing effect on a person's mind and body.

They Have Breakfast With Their Loved Ones

Efficient people love to socialize right after they get up. It helps them wake up completely and focus on their daily agenda. They usually enjoy a breakfast with their loved ones, which provides them with positive energy for the day ahead.

They Set Their Priorities And Goals

Most people are successful simply because they know how to organize their life. They set their priorities and goals for the entire week. That is the very first thing they do on a Monday morning because knowing your goals is the first step towards achieving them.

They Make A Plan For The Day

After setting realistic goals, productive people usually make a plan for the day. Trying to accomplish certain goals without a proper and well-written plan is ill-advised. Instead, you should always put pen to paper and write down the steps you want to take. Make a good plan, stick to it, and you won't have anything to worry about.

Palarong Pinoy Fun Run

Note: This event has been cancelled.

For Filipinos who were born, raised, and experienced their childhood before the digital age, the words "online", "mobile", "tablet", "cellphone", and etc. were all unheard. But it was also these generations who all learned about competition and sportsmanship in the games we used to play on the streets. Neighbors used to be close-knit even if they are not blood-related, there were no strangers among the kids, getting sweaty and bruises are all normal and part of our childhood!

What about a chance to bring back those memories and show the younger generation what it was like playing piko or sipa during recess; exercise agility, strength and flexibility with hula-hoop, limbo rock, luksong-tinik; or even play by teams with patintero?

Once in our lifetime, a fun run comes, giving you the satisfaction of running as well as participating in game stops that can let your inner batang pinoy have his larong pinoy for the day!

Palarong Pinoy Fun Run will re-instill our old ways of "gaming" by reliving the traditional pinoy fun games along the route.

The rules of engagement are quite clear and simple:

• Every kilometer ends with a Pinoy game. Play that game to proceed running your race.
• Failure to play the game means a consequence is required. You can only move on by doing a burpee or jumping jack.

Finish your race unto the festival area with a haven of Pinoy delicacies and more gaming!

Have it all in the Palarong Pinoy Fun Run.

4 Ways to Break Your Phone Addiction So You Can Focus Better on Your Goals

by: Stefan Simonovic

Designed by Freepik

We live in a modern world in which technology and internet have crucial roles. This, of course, is a good thing, but ever since smartphones made an appearance, people became absolutely addicted to these little gadgets. We can't blame them, though. These new cellphones allow them to conduct their work, have fun on social media, and even find love online. Now, even though these phones can be rather practical and useful, the constant need to check your notifications and messages might interfere with your daily routine. So, if you feel addicted to your phone, here are 4 ways to break that addiction and focus better on your daily goals and assignments.

Keep It Out Of Your Reach

This is sort of an "out of sight, out of mind" strategy, but it works. Keeping your phone out of reach is definitely one of the best ways to break this nasty addiction. If your smartphone is constantly in your proximity, you won't be able to resist the temptation to check all those notifications and messages which will negatively affect your productivity. So, if you're not expecting an important call, make sure to keep your phone away from your work environment.

Delete The Time-Consuming Apps

Like we already said, checking your phone every 10 minutes has a negative effect on your routine and efficiency. However, there's a way to prevent that from happening. All you need to do is delete the most addictive and time-consuming apps on your device. If you tend to shift between Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, make sure to delete those three apps and you'll save yourself some precious time. By eliminating the social apps, you'll increase your productivity, be sure of it.

Turn Off The Notifications On Your Phone

If for some reason you can't delete those apps we mentioned above, you should find a way to keep them from breaking your concentration. Like you probably know, various alerts and notification sounds can be both distracting and annoying, so the best way to keep your focus is by turning off all the notifications except text messages and your main ringtone. You'll be able to concentrate on your assignments and you won't miss any of the important calls and messages.

Replace This Habit With Something Else

Breaking certain habits can be really tough and complicated, so if you can't do that, you can always replace the habit of checking your phone with a new, better habit. In order to do this, you need something that will be a substitute for your smartphone, like a book for example. All you need to do is keep your phone out of reach and keep a book close to you. So, when you feel the urge to check your phone, you can simply pick up a book and read a few pages. This way, you'll break this nasty phone addiction, save yourself some valuable time, and improve your overall knowledge.

Hiking For Newbies: 5 Essential Tips

by: Stefan Simonovic

Designed by Freepik

It doesn't matter if you're young, middle-aged, or a member of the senior dating niche, you still need to exercise on a regular basis if you wish to remain healthy and fit. However, not all people can go to the gym or participate in serious training sessions due to various reasons. On the other hand, the vast majority of people despises running, jogging and other similar activities, even though they are perfectly aware of all benefits that cardio provides.

But what if we told you there's one healthy activity you could enjoy on a daily basis? That’s right, we’re talking about hiking here. This is one of the most popular exercises all around the globe because it's great for your overall health and it allows you to enjoy nature and beautiful views. So, if you're interested in hiking, here are the 5 essential tips every newbie has to check out.

Start With Short Hikes And Easy Terrains

At first, hiking may seem like an easy activity that does not require a lot of stamina, but that's not true. Yes, the first 15-30 minutes will be rather simple, especially if the terrain is easy, but after an hour, you'll notice the first signs of fatigue. So, if you're a beginner, it's absolutely crucial to pick short hikes first, at least until you improve your stamina and gain some experience. Also, don't start with complicated terrains and trails because there's a chance you might injure yourself along the way.

Check The Weather And Dress In Layers

One of the things every hiking newbie must do before going out is checking the weather conditions. These walks can be quite long, which means the climate can change a few times before you finish your trail. Therefore, in order to avoid any unpleasant situations and accidents, make sure to check the weather before you start walking. Also, you should always try to dress in layers when hiking. The temperature can change rather quickly, which means you need to be ready to cool off by easily undressing a layer of your clothes without completely exposing yourself to the elements.

Bring The Map And Memorize The Trail

It doesn't matter how close to home you are, you can easily get lost in any woods out there. Therefore, it's always good to bring a map with you and memorize your trail. Try to remember every tree and every stone along the way, it might help you find your way back in case you get lost or lose your trail.

Pick The Right Shoes

Hiking implies walking across the unpredictable and tricky terrain for a long period of time. This means you need to pick the right shoes for this adventure. Your footwear must be comfortable but firm, in order to endure the rough terrain. Uncomfortable shoes will turn your hike into a nightmare filled with frustration, blisters, and sore ankles.

Hydrate Yourself And Watch Your Pace

Finishing a hike in a safe and healthy fashion should always be your priority. Now, you can achieve that goal only if you hydrate yourself during the hike. Furthermore, watching your pace is crucial too. Like we said, the first 15 minutes might be deceivingly easy, but you must never go all in from the beginning. You need to save your energy and keep a balanced pace throughout the entire hike. This is the only way you'll be able to finish the trail.

5 Crucial Tips For Beginner Cyclists

by: Stefan Simonovic

Designed by Freepik

We're currently in between two major cycling events of the year, Giro d'Italia and Tour de France, and most people are dusting off their bikes in order to enjoy a little bit of cycling during summer. Now, it doesn't matter if you're a young person or someone from the senior dating scene, cycling is probably one of the healthiest physical activities for you, no doubt about it. Even though riding a bike can seem like a pretty easy and simple exercise, covering long distances may prove to be rather tricky and difficult. So, if you're a cycling newbie, here are the 5 crucial tips you simply have to check out.

Buy Your Bike At The Local Bicycle Shop

Even though buying your bicycle on the Internet can be cheaper, you never actually know what you're buying. You're not able to see or test the bike you're purchasing, and that's exactly why it's always better to buy your new toy in a local bicycle shop. There, you can buy a bike that's been tailored just for you and your specific body dimensions. Also, if a certain part of your bike breaks down, you can always go back to the shop and replace it with an original part. That's something you can't do if you decide to buy your new cycle online.

Invest In A Comfortable Saddle

Cycling is all about long and enjoyable rides. However, if your saddle is not comfortable, every single one of your rides will be painful. In order to avoid such a dreadful scenario, make sure to pay a little bit more and get a nice and comfy saddle. This way, you'll be able to enjoy your new hobby every single day.

Don't Be Cheap When It Comes To Gear And Clothing

It may sound trivial at first, but this is definitely of the most important tips for cycling newbies. Investing in proper gear and clothing may prove to be crucial for a pleasant and safe cycling experience. Proper headgear, helmets, knee and elbow protectors should be at the top of your shopping list. After you purchase those, make sure to buy padded shorts, comfortable riding outfits, and specially designed shoes that will prevent any kind of slipping during the ride.

Always Bring Enough Food And Water On Your Trip

If you want to enjoy a successful long ride, you need to stay hydrated and nourished from beginning to the end. Of course, you can't bring too many supplies with you because you won't be able to enjoy the ride. Therefore, feel free to bring small bottles of water, energy gels, cereal bars, and some bananas. These products will provide you with all the calories and energy you need.

Use The Gears To Protect Your Knees

Riding a bike in the same gear (high or low) might cause cramps in muscles and pain in your knees. So, in order to protect your knees and keep your legs fresh, make sure to shift to a lower gear every once in a while, especially during an uphill ride and on tricky terrains.
