My Goal

A while ago in our room while staring blankly at my brother's cabinet and thinking about having been stranded and unable to go to work, I saw this small piece of wood laminated with a good poem, and a bible passage at the end of the poem. I remember that this piece of wood was one of my desk's paraphernalia back when I was still studying in College. As I grab and read each stanza, I can't also help but to notice the tore lamination and the slowly fading color on the design. The poem was so inspiring to me that I also began to remember the times when I was still actively participating in our Church's work, how it touches me, and how happy I feel whenever I get to inspire, share a smile, be in the service for others, and get to know each family that we get to visit.

So the following posted poem aims to preserve this memory, and also to share this poem which has also been my guide.

My Goal
author unknown
To be so strong that nothing can disturb
my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to
every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is
something in them.
To look at the funny side of everything and
make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for
the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success
of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press
on to the greater achievements of the
future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature I meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of
myself that I have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for
anger, too strong for fear and too
happy to permit the presence of trouble.

I press on toward the goal to win the prize
for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

- Philippians 3:14

Visayan Forum Commitment Week

"Since 2005, the Visayan Forum Foundation and the Philippine Government have been working together to help combat trafficking in every front. Since then, the intervention with the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and multiple stakeholders has been recognized as a global best practice. Despite the overall success of the country's Anti-Trafficking efforts in prevention and protection of victims, the US State Department in its 2010 Trafficking in Person Report ranked the Philippines under Tier 2 Watchlist for the second consecutive year and it called the Government of the Philippines to demonstrate significant and increasing progress in prosecution and toward compliance with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.

In a news article dated September 28th, 2010, President Benigno Aquino gave a statement calling for tougher actions against human trafficking. Since then, the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) - the government's national body for the coordination of all anti-trafficking efforts, currently chaired by the Undersecretary of Justice, has been working hard to combat trafficking in various fronts all in partnership with civil society.

The Multi-Sectoral Network lead by the Visayan Forum Foundation and its partners are intensifying the War Against Human Trafficking (WAHT) and as a highlight of this campaign, the MSNAT is holding a "Commitment Week" on March 13th to 18th, 2011. This week-long event will serve as a platform to convene diverse leaders in their respective sectors and fields to commit towards providing immediate and appropriate response mechanisms to address human trafficking in the areas of prevention, protection, and healing and reintegration.

It will be attended by committed and action-oriented movers and shakers from the government, business sector, socio-civic groups, academe and non-government organizations. The impact of their ideas and actions will stimulate and inspire other businesses and sectors to address human trafficking seriously and raise awareness that practical steps, no matter how simple they may be, can and should be taken."

Schedule of Events
  • March 13 2011, McKinley Hill - Zonta's Run Against Trafficking (R.A.T. race): 3k, 5k, and 10k fun run.
  • March 14-18 2011, Philippine House of Representatives, Philippine Senate, and SM Mall of Asia - Photo Exhibit: Mga Liham ni Neneng (Letters of Neneng)

About the Visayan Forum Foundation

The Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc. is at the forefront of providing interventions for the protection, healing and reintegration of victims of human trafficking. Together with its partners, the Visayan Forum aborts trafficking in transit areas by guarding choke points and domestic transit points in seaports and airports. It operates halfway houses in the ports that provide a center-based package of protective services, which includes an information technology training project with Microsoft to prepare survivors for reintegration.

The Visayan Forum's strong partnership with the Philippine government and private shipping companies was hailed as one of the international best practices by the U.S. State Department in its 2005 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The Anti-Slavery International, the world's oldest human rights organization, conferred the 2005 Anti-Slavery award on Visayan Forum's President and Founder, Ma. Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, who was also recognized by the UK government as one of the Modern-Day Abolitionists in the celebration of the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act in March 2007.

RunRio Trilogy Leg 1 Official Registration Update

OFFICIAL RELEASE:
RUNRIO TRILOGY 2011 LEG 1 – RUN UNITED 1 REGISTRATION UPDATE

Hello Runners!

Thank you for your overwhelming response to and support of the first leg of the Runrio Trilogy 2011 – Unilab’s Run United 1. For everybody’s guidance, here is the updated registration status per category:

RACE CATEGORY
REGISTRATION STATUS
500mCLOSED
5kmCLOSED
10kmCLOSED
21kmCLOSED

With this development, we officially announce that the Runrio Trilogy Leg 1 - Run United 1 REGISTRATION is now OFFICIALLY CLOSED.

It gladdens us no end to note that this race was able to set a record in terms of registration turn-out, with slots being sold-out in just a span of three weeks (registration opened last January 31,2011), but it also saddens us that there were still a lot of runners who were not able to sign-up for this race. In fact, we continously receive requests (oh and sometimes, demands!) for slots to be added for the 5km, 10km and 21km categories.

Unfortunately for reasons mainly of safety and security (among other reasons), we regret to inform you that both Unilab and Runrio have agreed to be firm in its decision of keeping to the planned maximum target number of participants.

You might want to consider registering for other upcoming Runrio-organized races such as the Women’s Health – Athena All Women’s Run (March 19) or the AACE The G.O.O.D. Run (April 3) instead.

We would also like to encourage you to look forward to the Leg 2 of this year’s Runrio Trilogy, the details of which we will be announcing soon. On a happier note, we have taken into consideration your requests and as such we look forward to accomodating more runners in Leg 2 by increasing the number of available slots/target participants.

Again we give our sincerest thanks to all of you for your unending support to Runrio-organized races.

See you all on March 6!

Last Man Running

A common title for the fittest, or strongest, or fiercest, or to someone who solely survived a recently concluded war is called "Last man standing"; while for the one who seems to have the most available tank in an eating-contest, he is the "Last man eating". On the race results of every running event, some of us might give a glimpse about the last participant who last crossed the finish line. In any running event, if you are the last man who will be crossing the finish line, you are the "last man running", while the tarpaulins, banners, stage, sponsor booths, and other participants have already packed or are already home. As the last runner, you only get praises of your friends and buddies for still being able to cross the finish line.

But on this coming February 20, 2011, an event solely for the "Last Man Running" will be held. All you have to do is... to run, until you're the only one left running. And unlike the common races, as the last runner, you will be hailed the "Last Man Running King", plus a generous cash prize also awaits your pocket-size blisters.

How can you be enlisted as one of the King contenders? Easy, aside from exercise and training, make yourself durable for the event through Deanol for mental potency, Korean phanax ginseng for endurance, and Royal jelly for youthful vitality. Where can you find this? Only from Rogin-E!

To give you more idea about the event, read some excerpts of the event's Press Release below.
...heralded as the ultimate race for endurance - a marathon meant to test the limits of a man's athletic prowess in direct competition with everyone else on-track.... As the name suggests the object of the race is to literally be the last man running, effectively outlasting everyone else while managing to keep a running pace all throughout.

Last Man Running is definitely unique as marathons go. Virtually a first in the Philippine running scene, Last Man Running brings into fore not only the endurance of the body against time but also the endurance of the will against the will of others.... This kind of physical and mental durability is something you strive for. It is something you work hard for to develop.

The Rogin-E Last Man Running is a three-event race which will feature 5KM run, 10KM run and the main event, the Last Man Running.

This marathon is designed to test the endurance of Rogin-E users. The challenge is for the participants to go as far as they can because this race has no finish line! It’s not about how fast but how far.
If you are already challenged enough, read more of the details of how you can be "enlisted" as the 2011 King of Last Man Running.
