Old Spice and Ducati Motorbike Honor Today’s Man with the Spice Up your Ride Raffle Promo

PRESS RELEASE

A man’s man is not a man who shies away from the crowd nor a man who hides when the going gets tough. He is someone who is loud, proud, and stands out from the crowd by being their absolute best in every aspect, even in their personal care. Old Spice, the manliest grooming brand on the planet, has recently launched the ‘Spice Up Your Ride’ raffle promo, where a lucky guy gets to win an exclusive Old Spice Edition of the equally confident and striking Ducati SuperSport motorbike.

“We want today’s man to not settle for the bland and the conventional. Today’s man should be able to stand out and be fully confident of themselves. With Old Spice, you get to spice up your ride, making you feel confident in whatever endeavor you are in to, whether it is about your career, your sport, your social life, or your personal life. We want you to take charge. And with our friends in Ducati, you get to do this by elevating your game with the limited edition Old Spice Ducati SuperSport”, shared Old Spice Philippines at the launch event in Social House, Circuit Makati, Makati City.

However, what does it means to be today’s man, a man’s man? Old Spice has scouted the nation in search for Filipinos who have spiced up their rides by going the extra mile in the things they are passionate about while looking good and feeling confident. Two standout men were recognized, Noel Agra, who is not just a well-trained chef but also an avid obstacle course racer, and Christian Busby, a model whose passions include blogging and going on adventures.

They were asked what drove them to confidently pursue the things they love. “As a fat kid, I have always loved food so I decided to become a chef. While for obstacle course racing, I did one with my dad two years ago and ever since, we got hooked and we wanted to share this love for obstacle course racing here in the Philippines”, explained Noel. Christian, a Filipino-English model and travel-oriented blogger shared, “Since I was young, I already love exploring new things, learning about new cultures. The thing that fascinates me is just seeing a different culture and trying to adapt.“

Now as guys who are not only pursuing what they love but excelling in them, they imparted meaningful pieces of advice for those who want to man-up and become a man’s man. Noel, recalls a memorable quote from Kung Fu Panda 3, “If you only do what you can, you will never be more than what you are now”. That, for him, has always kept him growing and has always challenged him. For Christian, he has two secrets for success. First, you have to set goals that are really high and then reach it. Second, he said, “You got to be confident in yourself. Groom yourself well, put Old Spice on you and smell good. Confidence is a huge key.”

L-R: Dante Robles, Market Manager of Old Spice Philippines; Model/blogger Christian Busby; Dulah Lipardo, General Manager of RPG Distribution Services, Inc.; Chef/obstacle course racer Noel Agra; and Kyle De Vera, Senior Marketing Specialist of RPG Distribution Services Inc.

The Importance of Exercise for Addiction Recovery

by: Stefan Simonovic

Addiction is never a good thing. Period.

Some individuals are addicted to seemingly harmless things like food or biker dating sites and don’t even consider themselves addicts, yet are still endangered by potential complications that might source later from their addiction. Differently put, there is no such thing as more and less harmful addictions - none of them should be taken lightly.

However, when it comes to recovering from an addiction, there are certain ways by which you can make that whole process much easier. In this light, we’re going to talk about how exercising affects addiction recovery in a positive way.

Something to Focus On

Exercising is most commonly used to lose excess weight and shape one’s body. When we’re talking about addiction recovery, working out has proven to be essential because it allows an addict to focus on something concrete during the recovery process. Namely, attempting to keep yourself in shape can occupy your mind just enough to help you forget about the problems. Moreover, you might even gain a fresh perspective on your addiction as well as the consequences it could have on your life should you continue to act irresponsibly.

Bettering Yourself

Another more obvious reason to exercise while recovering from addiction would be the actual betterment of ones' self, both physical and psychological. So, staying healthy and prolonging your life are just some of the many benefits exercising can bring to the table. On the other hand, working out can easily replace a former addict’s ruinous rituals and thus help them create a new and healthy routine. For example, those who had a food addiction will find it easier to overcome their cravings if they exercise, as they’ll have less time to eat. It doesn’t hurt to mention that one isn’t obliged to engage in heavy workouts immediately. Some studies have proven that doing even the most minor exercise like walking for half an hour a day can help reduce addiction-related anxiety and significantly improve one’s health.

No Time for Games

The last but not least benefit of exercising in regards to addiction recovery comes in the form of taking up time one would otherwise spend on thinking about the addiction, succumbing to cravings or losing mind over trying hard to overcome urges caused by an addiction.

First off, if you choose to exercise seriously, you’ll have to create a workout plan before you start doing anything. This will immediately take up a good chunk of your time and will help keep your mind off an addiction. Then, you can time your workouts in such a way so that you don’t have any “void” time whatsoever. Also, you can choose a type of workout and intensity of training that suits your needs best, especially if you haven’t been active and lived a sedentary lifestyle for quite some time.

Have you ever tried exercising to get rid of an addiction? Did it help you? We’d really like to hear all about it in the comment section below!

Sleep Apnea is More Serious than You Realize

by: Stefan Simonovic

Source: everydayhealth.com

While some of us worry if there’ll be enough sun to hit the beach tomorrow, others are wondering if they’ll ever find love online. And while these are both valid worries, there are still those among us who are fighting to experience one of the most basic human needs normally, which is sleep.

There’s no denying that sleep apnea is a real condition and that many, many people suffer from it. It might seem like it’s just a snoring problem that it isn’t that serious to begin with, but studies have proven not only that this condition is more common than what most people think, but also that it’s more dangerous than most of us realize.

No Sleep = More Need for Sleep

We’ll start things off with the most logical consequence of sleep apnea, which is basically sleepiness all around.

By definition, sleep apnea is a sleep-related breathing disorder that most of us will describe as “really loud snoring.” However, it actually comes in two forms: obstructive and central sleep apnea.

The former is the most common form and revolves around an actual physical obstruction in the vascular system that’s preventing normal breathing, while the latter refers to failed signals from the brain to the muscle groups that are responsible for our breathing. Sometimes, a person can even have a combination of the two.

Now, considering that sleep apnea can easily prevent a person from sleeping normally, it often results in having a larger than usual need to sleep when you’re supposed to be wide awake. This can cause many different issues, most dangerous of which are related to driving. Just imagine falling asleep behind the steering wheel because you woke up about 10 times last night since you weren’t able to breathe properly.

Critical Failure

Still, we haven’t even mentioned the most dangerous risks of sleep apnea. Namely, most people will link their drowsiness with current stress or a depressive episode without being aware that their sleep apnea is actually causing these. More importantly, they won’t know that it can trigger some far more serious illnesses and conditions, too.

It’s been proven over and over again that sleep apnea more often than not affects the overall quality of one’s life. Differently put, you can’t perform your everyday tasks normally, your work performance falls off and you’re susceptible to having your emotional and mental health degraded.

However, the most serious risks of this condition come in the form of cardiovascular events. As it happens, sleep apnea can easily cause a person’s oxygen levels to drop, therefore endangering some of the more vital organs like the heart, brain, and lungs.

Studies have shown that those who suffer from sleep apnea have a much higher risk of stroke, cardiac arrest, arrhythmia, early memory change, pre-diabetes and even full-blown diabetes than those without the condition.

So, the next time you hear someone snore really loudly and roll restlessly in bed due to it, advise them to see a doctor about it and get proper treatment for their condition.

Obesity Rates Higher in Country than City

by: Stefan Simonovic

Source: Flickr

Apart from those interested in BBW dating, not many of us are aware of just how much obesity there is in the U.S. Moreover, it shouldn’t be strange at all that the obesity rates are pretty high across the country given how much junk food and candy we get into our system every day.

And even though the amount of obese people is more or less justified, we’re pretty sure that nobody knows that the percentage of obesity is higher in rural areas than in cities. With that said, let’s dive deeper into the matter and check what not one, but two analyses have concluded.

Obesity doesn’t care about Age

The study was helmed by Craig M. Hales, MD, Chery D. Fryar, MSPH, and Margaret D. Carrol, MSPH, who work at the National Center for Health Statistics, the US Public Health Service and the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, respectively.

They took two groups – adults and children – and compared their height, weight and living location over the course of 5 years, from 2001 to 2006. They have compiled the results and published them on the JAMA Network recently, pointing out to an unexpected fact: there are more obese people in the country than in the city.

For example, when it comes to women, about 38% of those who live within a population greater than a million were obese, while that number goes up to 42.5% in populations smaller than a million. On the other hand, the percentage of obese women in rural areas reaches stunning 47.2%.

The numbers for men are showing a similar pattern: 31.8% in large cities, 42.4 percent in small urban populations and 38.9% in country areas. The numbers for men and women repeat themselves when it comes to male and female children – more obese kids in the country than in the city, basically.

Other Factors

This study attempted to take into account age, race, ethnicity, smoking habits and education level. However, these factors didn’t show much.

Firstly, there was no real difference between white and black men, even though Hispanic men have shown a dramatically higher obesity rate than either of the previous two groups. Unlike this comparison, black women have a higher obesity percentage than white women (55.9% to 38.1%). Hispanic women have about 48% obesity rates, while this number goes down to 13.6% in Asian females.

The last significant factor was education. As it happens, there was no difference between obesity rates in males with a high school education and male college graduates. However, the obesity rates are raised significantly for women as their education levels get lower.

Bottom line, these new statistics are showing that obesity isn’t only more widespread than ever before, but also that it’s becoming a plague in the countryside even more than it is in the cities, despite the fact that city folk are proven to have a more sedentary lifestyle that includes high amounts of junk food.
